Month of Sylius: June

June has been another action-packed month for the Sylius ecosystem! From the highly anticipated SyliusCon 2025 agenda reveal to performance improvements and vibrant community events across three countries.

This month brought us milestones with Sylius 2.1’s industry-first support for PHP 8.4 and Symfony 7.3, exciting new plugins joining the official family, and a fresh approach to product development through documentation-driven strategies. Meanwhile, our global community came together in spectacular fashion – from SyliusParty in Toulouse to meetups in Poland and Germany, plus a unique rugby stadium gathering in Lyon that perfectly captured the spirit of our ecosystem.

Here’s a breakdown of June’s highlights:

Overall product updates

June marked our first full month after the Sylius 2.1 release, and the pace hasn’t slowed a bit. We’ve officially completed the PHPspec-to-PHPUnit migration across the board, bringing sharper tests, consistent tooling, and easier contributions for everyone working with Sylius.

On the feature side, Sylius continues to mature with smarter API capabilities. Product variants now expose richer data, taxons return cleaner hierarchical trees, and new image filter endpoints make the storefront API more powerful for modern frontends. We also added impersonation checks for improved security tooling, bumped support for PHP 8.4 and Node.js 24, and made sure everything’s solid with Symfony 7.3.

User experience also saw steady refinement: from fully WCAG-compliant Shop templates and cleaner order history views, to more elegant product channel pricing with new accordion layouts. We even improved the “Back” button behavior in Admin and streamlined Stimulus controller usage across bundles.

Meanwhile, the ecosystem kept leveling up: Mollie’s plugin now supports advanced subscription workflows and refined surcharge handling. The B2BKit got serious about pricing lists with API support and a new pricing engine. And FrontWing 0.2.0 landed with refreshed checkout and secure account flows.

TL;DR: June was about leveling up everything – from tests to translations, APIs to accessibility – for developers and merchants alike.

First minor release in Sylius 2.x sets new standards

Sylius 2.1 is officially here, and we’re proud to be the first open-source eCommerce platform supporting PHP 8.4 and Symfony 7.3! 🦢

This release brings full WCAG AA accessibility compliance to meet 2025 legal standards, a smarter admin dashboard with pending actions and KPIs at a glance, and a future-ready backend powered by Doctrine ORM 3, API Platform 4.1, and Node.js 24. We’ve also completed the move from PHPspec to PHPUnit, making testing simpler and more accessible for contributors.

Huge thanks to our community – this release was truly a team victory! 👏 Check out the complete insights on our blog for all the technical details.

Wishlist and Product Bundle plugins are now official 🔌

Along with the recently adopted Wishlist plugin, we have also officially adopted the ProductBundle plugin. These plugins address core online store needs, creating dynamic product bundles that increase average order value and allowing customers to save products for later purchase decisions. Together, they deliver a smoother, more comprehensive shopping experience.

Both plugins are fully supported in Sylius v2 and ready to test on our demo

Mollie integration gets official backing 🦢

We’ve been partners with Mollie since 2018, sharing values around community-first development and technological innovation. To strengthen this partnership even further, our Development Team has officially taken over maintenance of the Sylius/MolliePlugin!

The refreshed integration brings refactored architecture with upgraded dependencies, full support for Sylius 1.14 and 2.x LTS versions, PHP 8.1+ compatibility (including PHP 8.4), native recurring orders support for subscriptions, automated testing for long-term stability, and out-of-the-box support in Sylius-Standard CE.

Most importantly, you now get better SLA support backed by our development team. This closer alliance ensures reliable, future-proof payment processing that grows with your business.

Ready to dive deeper into what this partnership means? Check out the full story on our blog for all the technical details.

API improvements driven by real-world usage 🚀

While building FrontWing, our React-based frontend for Sylius, the team discovered some API bottlenecks that needed attention. Instead of working around them, we decided to fix them properly.

The backend team delivered key optimizations based on this internal feedback. Access to critical product data is now much simpler, making it easier to retrieve associations, options, variants, and pricing information. This streamlines the integration process significantly.

We’ve also boosted performance across the board with faster response times for order and cart queries, plus introduced dedicated endpoints for product images and taxons. The new image filters give developers much more flexible control over visual assets and product image management.

Speed up development with Codex AI assistant 🦢

Meet Codex 👋, an AI assistant that actually understands your Sylius projects! This isn’t just another code completion tool; once Codex grasps your project structure through a simple environment setup and agents.md file, it becomes a genuine development partner.

Codex handles the heavy lifting: writing tests, generating configurations, fixing bugs, and following Symfony conventions. It delivers cleaner code faster, provides meaningful test coverage suggestions, and fixes issues with contextual understanding of your specific domain.

Whether you’re building plugins or launching stores, Codex works like a teammate who knows your stack inside and out, never gets tired, and keeps everything clean and consistent.

Learn how to set up Codex for your project and start coding smarter, not harder.

18x faster order processing ⚡

Sometimes the biggest wins come from the smallest changes. Our team just achieved something remarkable: reducing large order processing time from 53.6 seconds to just 2.86 seconds – that’s an 18x performance improvement!

The best part? This massive optimization required changes to only six files with zero backward compatibility breaks. It’s a perfect example of surgical improvements that deliver huge real-world impact without disrupting existing implementations.

This OrderItemUnit optimization is still in proof-of-concept stage, but the results are so promising that we’re planning to dig deeper in the coming days. You can follow the technical details and progress on GitHub.

When performance improvements this significant are possible with minimal code changes, it shows the power of strategic optimization and deep platform knowledge. Stay tuned for more details as we refine this breakthrough!

Working with the Sylius CMS Plugin

We’ve been recently testing the capabilities of the Sylius CMS plugin in creating different kinds of blogs and articles. The plugin handles content creation while maintaining the flexibility that makes Sylius special. The integration feels natural, allowing merchants to manage both their store content and marketing materials from a single, unified interface.

Here’s a sneak peek of what we are currently doing in the Sylius demo (It will be available soon – stay tuned!)

Sylius powers 4UStore’s smart multi-store strategy 🛒

This ambitious Dutch company from Oostburg launched three specialized webshops – handdoekentoiletpapier.nl for hygiene products, kantinewinkel.nl for office supplies, and dropwinkel.eu for candy, all built on a clever technical foundation that connects everything smoothly by our Professional Solution Partner, Nedbase

The magic lies in the architecture: three custom webshops running on a smart middleware layer that handles order processing, inventory management, and operations behind the scenes. This creates both structural efficiency for the business and ordering convenience for customers across different product categories.

What makes this implementation particularly impressive is how it positions 4UStore for its next growth phase. The same intelligent foundation is now being extended to support a series of international webshops, proving that well-designed Sylius solutions can scale from local success to global ambitions.

Want to learn more about how 4UStore built its multi-store success? A detailed case study will be available soon on our website. Stay tuned!

The Sylius community keeps growing with two new partners joining our ecosystem this month.

Antadis has joined as a Professional Solution Partner from France! 🇫🇷 Founded in 2002, this independent digital agency brings over 20 years of experience building custom eCommerce platforms for B2B and B2C businesses. With 70+ experts covering the full project lifecycle – from strategic consulting and UX/UI design to architecture and development – they’re already making waves across France and Switzerland. Their expertise spans both monolithic and headless architectures, making them perfect partners for ambitious Sylius projects.

Creoline GmbH comes aboard as our new Professional Hosting Partner from Germany! 🇩🇪 This specialized hosting agency focuses on cloud infrastructure for eCommerce businesses throughout the DACH region. Their performance-optimized stack includes LiteSpeed servers, Redis, OpenSearch, and CDN solutions built for speed and reliability. With trusted clients like BVB Borussia Dortmund, they bring serious credentials to Sylius hosting.

Welcome to both teams, we’re excited to see how these partnerships strengthen our ecosystem and open new opportunities for the community!

Doc-driven development

We’ve discovered something powerful at Sylius: sometimes the best features aren’t built into the UI – they’re built into the documentation. This led us to embrace “Doc-Driven Development,” a fresh approach that’s changing how we think about product development.

The challenge was real. How do you stay lightweight and flexible while providing the functionality modern businesses expect? Our answer came through comprehensive “How to” guides that show developers exactly how to implement features through customization rather than core bloat.

This approach delivers surprising benefits. Technical teams actually prefer solutions they can customize over rigid, built-in features. Plus, better documentation supercharges AI tools like Codex, making Sylius development significantly more efficient.

We’re investing heavily in practical documentation updates, especially in the “How to?” section. The formula is simple: Lightweight, flexible core + Documentation > Feature bloat. This approach lets us build the future of highly flexible eCommerce platforms without sacrificing what makes Sylius unique.

Roadmap 2025 check-in 📖

We’re halfway through 2025, and it’s time to assess our progress against the ambitious goals we set at the beginning of the year. From open-source improvements to ecosystem expansion, we’ve been busy delivering on our promises while discovering new opportunities along the way.

The journey continues, and the results so far have been promising. More feature announcements are coming – but that’s a story for another time.
