Month of Sylius: February

February has been a dynamic month for the Sylius ecosystem, building on the strong momentum we started the year with. From welcoming a new CTO to participating in community events and celebrating impressive project launches, it’s been a month full of action. Here’s a breakdown of February’s highlights.

Overall product updates

February was all about refining Sylius 2.0 while laying the groundwork for 2.1 – because who doesn’t love a fresh, stable release? We smoothed out UI glitches (goodbye, vanishing passwords! 👋), optimized grids for a slicker admin experience, and gave our payment infrastructure a security boost. The shop interface also got some love, with smarter dropdowns, a polished order history, and autocomplete where it counts. Meanwhile, under the hood, we fine-tuned API resource handling and documentation, making life easier for developers navigating the Sylius ecosystem. Oh, and 2.1? It’s warming up in the background, with strategic deprecations clearing the way for a leaner, meaner Sylius.

Szymon is no stranger to Sylius, having made his first contribution back in 2013. Now his journey comes full circle as he steps into this leadership role at a crucial time for the platform.

Welcome to the team! 👋

Past events 🔙

Now, let’s quickly summarize the events from February.

Sylius Hackathon 🇩🇪

On February 20th, the Sylius community came together at an exciting hackathon in Cologne, organized by WilMa Digital GmbH. This two-day collaborative event brought together developers and Sylius enthusiasts who tackled various technical challenges ranging from Tailwind customizations to AI integration and code quality improvements.

On the event, Stephan Hochdörfer discussed a new PHPStan extension specifically designed for Sylius. He recognized that while the existing phpstan-symfony extension provided a foundation, it didn’t account for Sylius-specific features. The experimental extension targets two core components of Sylius: the Resource bundle and the Grid bundle.

More details and PHPStan extension are available in Stephan’s article.

Never Code Alone Webinar 🇩🇪

Moving on, Sylius was featured in a compelling Never Code Alone live session that hosted Stephan Hochdörfer, a seasoned developer with over 25 years of experience in web and e-commerce development. The webinar provided valuable insights into Sylius as a flexible eCommerce solution that integrates with the Symfony ecosystem.

During this informative session, Stephan shared his journey from Magento to Sylius and highlighted the improvements in Sylius 2.0, particularly its enhanced Symfony integration and API-first approach. Viewers gained an understanding of Sylius’ core components and developer-friendly features, its capabilities as a headless commerce solution, and why it represents a viable alternative to platforms like Shopware and Magento.
