Gruchy Combustibles is a family business with over 50 years of experience in the heating fuel industry. Founded in 1971, this regional leader in fuel delivery serves northwestern France with an impressive logistics network: four strategically located warehouses, their own fleet of trucks, and dedicated delivery drivers.

Nonetheless, by 2023, their Prestashop-based platform was actively limiting their growth potential. Customers expected the smooth, personalized experience they’d find on major eCommerce sites, while Gruchy’s complex multi-warehouse operations demanded technical sophistication that their aging platform simply couldn’t deliver. 

What was the problem?

The delivery business presents unique challenges that standard eCommerce platforms struggle to handle. Gruchy’s previous PrestaShop platform had reached its limits and could no longer meet the company’s functional and business needs in several areas. The system lacked the ability to efficiently manage multi-warehouse distribution with separate stock levels, leaving customers uncertain about product availability in their specific delivery zones. Integration with internal systems like Logimatic for truck tracking and the newly integrated Mapotempo for delivery route planning required a complex integration path that slowed operations and introduced errors.

Most frustratingly, the platform couldn’t deliver a tailored user experience based on delivery zones. Unlike typical online retailers, Gruchy operates with multiple product types, from traditional firewood and wood pellets to heating oil, fuel, and AdBlue, each with different storage requirements, delivery methods, and seasonal availability patterns. The PrestaShop system struggled to handle these business-specific exceptions while providing a responsive and consistent experience across all devices.
