Month of Sylius: December 🎄

Welcome to the summary of the last month of 2024! Despite the holiday spirit and many team members taking time off to spend with their families, December remained a busy and productive month. Here’s a breakthrough of today’s article.

Let’s start the December’s summary!

Overall product updates

In December, the Sylius team focused on supporting versions 1.14 and 2.0 across the core repository and various plugins, including Refund, Invoicing, PayPal, and AdminOrderCreation. We also released an updated PluginSkeleton for versions 1.14 and 2.0, simplifying the creation of new plugins within the Sylius ecosystem.

Much of our effort was dedicated to adapting Sylius Plus packages for the latest versions, which led to slightly reduced activity in the open-source space. Nevertheless, we ensured several UI improvements, tackled maintenance tasks, and continued to enhance the overall developer and user experience.

La Fabrika, the unique event space in Prague, introduced a new Sylius-based ticket store by Johan Hornof. The solution features a sophisticated headless admin interface built on ApiPlatform with Svelte (TypeScript), delivering exceptional flexibility and performance.

Additionally, the platform’s architecture leverages PostgreSQL and Redis, deployed on DigitalOcean’s Kubernetes infrastructure. The solution’s communication needs are handled efficiently through MailJet, ensuring reliable customer engagement.

Past events 🔙

Let’s take a look back at the memorable events that shaped December in our community.

PHPUGMRN & Sylius Germany Community Meetup 🇩🇪

On December 12, Sylius and bitExpert AG joined forces in Mannheim, Germany to host a combined PHPUGMRN & Sylius Germany Community Meetup. The event started with a workshop on “Migration to Sylius 2.0” led by Commerce Weavers’ Co-founder, Łukasz Chruściel. The evening’s program featured a series of insightful presentations, beginning at 19:00, with Stéphane Decock sharing his experience with Sylius implementations. This was followed by Boas Falke‘s presentation on the SCHUFA Plugin for fraud detection, and Łukasz Chruściel wrapped up the talks with a discussion on background processing in Sylius.

The meetup provided great networking opportunities between sessions, allowing developers to connect, share experiences, and enjoy drinks in a casual atmosphere. :beers:

SymfonyCon Vienna 2024 🇦🇹

As a bronze sponsor at this year’s SymfonyCon Vienna, we were thrilled to be part of an amazing event that brought together over 1,000 Symfony enthusiasts from numerous countries. The energy was electric as we connected with numerous developers and tech leaders who shared their experiences with Sylius and their vision for the future of eCommerce.

The event proved to be a perfect opportunity to strengthen our ties with key partners and community members. We had engaging discussions with teams from SensioLabs, EMAGMA, Monsieur Biz, Webgriffe, Sulu CMS, Platform.sh, Smile, and bitExpert AG. These conversations not only reinforced existing partnerships but also opened doors for new collaborations within the Symfony ecosystem.

What stood out was the remarkable familiarity many attendees already had with Sylius, highlighting our growing presence in the Symfony community. The genuine enthusiasm and insightful questions we received demonstrated the increasing interest in open-source eCommerce solutions that leverage Symfony’s robust foundation.

New Sylius integration with Tpay 💸

The Tpay integration by Commerce Weavers brings comprehensive payment solutions, including BLIK, card payments (Visa, Mastercard), digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), and various buy-now-pay-later options such as PayPo and bank installments. The plugin offers streamlined features like direct bank redirects and card data storage for returning customers, all while supporting PLN currency and providing a sandbox environment for testing.
