A month left till the biggest Sylius conference 🇫🇷

The biggest Sylius event is quickly approaching! We’re bringing even more speakers, more sponsors, and next-level content that you won’t want to miss. If you are into Sylius, there is no better place to learn and network than SyliusCon and its surrounding before/after parties.

The SyliusCon 2024 conference will be held on November 13, 2024, in Lyon, France, at the Centre Congrès de Lyon. It’s the third annual conference dedicated to the Sylius ecosystem, bringing together developers, eCommerce experts, and business leaders from around the world.

The event will feature insightful talks, hands-on workshops, networking opportunities with the best developers in the Sylius community, and much more! Whether you’re looking to deepen your technical knowledge or explore new business opportunities, SyliusCon 2024 is the place to be.

As there will be a lot to see and experience, we decided to describe everything in today’s blog.

The venue is 4.2 kilometers from the train station, roughly a 12-minute drive or 40-minute walk.

From the Central Bus Station 🚌

Located near the Lyon Part-Dieu bus station, providing easy access to the venue. It’s about 5.8 kilometers from the venue, an 18-minute drive or 1-hour walk.

Be(er)fore 🍻

For the be(er)fore for SyliusCon, we will meet on November 12 at 8 P.M. at BeerKing Pub, located at 246 Cours Lafayette, Lyon, in the 3rd arrondissement. The pub is conveniently situated near the Gare Part-Dieu, making it easily accessible for attendees arriving by train. The venue offers a casual atmosphere perfect for networking and relaxing with the Sylius fans. Its central location in Lyon makes it an ideal spot for an enjoyable time before the conference. 

Afterparty 🍻

The SyliusCon afterparty will be on November 13, 2024, from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Apériklub, 13 Place Jules Ferry in the 6th arrondissement (69006) of Lyon.

Place Jules Ferry is a famous square in Lyon, so you should be able to find and get to the venue easily. It’s the perfect place to network, relax, and celebrate the end of SyliusCon in the heart of Lyon.

The agenda includes a variety of session topics like plugin development, payment systems, and scaling for high-traffic events. There are three presentation tracks. Two are related to technology, and one touches on more business-related topics. Let”s take a look: 

💼 Biz track:

Stéphane DECOCK 

Stéphane DECOCK is a passionate PHP/Symfony/Sylius developer, a valued member of the Sylius Core Team, and a Certified Sylius Trainer. Stéphane will present “The Missing Piece in the Developer’s Toolkit: Communication”, where he will delve into the critical role of communication in software development. In this insightful talk, he will highlight why clear communication is essential for reducing errors and boosting efficiency.

Hélèna Gravelier

A co-presenter will join Hélèna Gravelier to discuss their experience replatforming a major luxury retail brand using Sylius. Hélèna will delve into the strategic and technical challenges her team faced throughout the process, providing insights on how they successfully overcame these obstacles. The presentation will offer a deep dive into the practical aspects of managing a large-scale replatforming project, showcasing how Sylius can drive success in the luxury e-commerce sector.

Przemysław Połeć

Our Strategic Partnership Manager, Przemysław, will present “Future-Proofing E-commerce: Preparing for Sylius 2.0”. This presentation will focus on the strategic you should take to prepare for the migration to Sylius 2.0. It will also highlight the key business benefits of upgrading, such as improved performance, enhanced scalability, and access to new features that drive innovation.

Zrinka Dedic

Zrinka Dedic is an IT professional with over 15 years of experience. Currently, she is a Product Manager at Locastic. Zrinka is passionate about blending business and technology and has shared her expertise as a speaker at various conferences.

In her talk titled „Transforming the Retail Industry with Sylius”, Zrinka will explore how Locastic successfully transformed Tommy.hr retail operations with Sylius, covering specific strategies and changes implemented using Sylius to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness in the retail sector.

Kuba Zwolinski

Kuba Zwolinski is the Chief Experience Officer at IronPlane & Snowdog Group, with over 15 years of experience in open source and eCommerce. His presentation, “Building a Sustainable Accessibility Program for Your Team,” will explore the importance of accessibility in web development and how to build a successful accessibility culture within a company. Kuba will also discuss the implications of the ADA law in the USA and the upcoming European Accessibility Act, emphasizing the need for proactive accessibility implementation.

Gregor Šink

Gregor is a Senior Backend Developer at Creatim with five years of experience working with Symfony and Sylius. In his presentation titled “Multiple webshops with case-specific sales processes on one Sylius instance – a case study,” Gregor will dive into a case study on DZS, a leading publishing house in Slovenia, and explain how his team built a unified Sylius-based platform to manage various B2C, B2B, and CMS experiences under one platform.

Julien Jacottet 🇫🇷

Julien, CTO of Mezcalito, will take you through the journey of Une Petite Mousse, a popular online beer shop, and their successful transition from an internal solution to Sylius. He will share the challenges they overcame, the innovative solutions they developed, and how Sylius helped brew up tangible, sparkling results.

Joachim Løvgaard

Joachim Løvgaard is a Sylius Core Team member and developer known for his significant contributions to the Sylius ecosystem. He will present “Create World Class Sylius Plugins,” sharing insights from his extensive experience in plugin and bundle development. Joachim’s talk will cover crucial topics such as code quality, dependencies, and developer experience, drawing from his impressive portfolio of over 75 plugins and 35 bundles.

Jacques Bodin-Hullin

Jacques Bodin-Hullin, the founder of the French web agency Monsieur Biz will give a speech entitled “Sylius Beyond E-commerce: Building the Perfect WordPress Competitor,” where he will showcase the innovative plugins developed by his team, NoCommerce & Rich Editor. These plugins transform Sylius into a robust and flexible framework, ideal for creating non-commercial websites.

Francis Hilaire

Francis Hilaire, as a full-stack web engineer at HARMAN International and a Sylius Core Team Member, will present “Sylius Payment: Overview and Future” where he will delve into the history and future developments of the Sylius payment system. Francis will discuss how his work has laid a solid foundation for handling payments in Sylius 2.0, addressing one of the most significant breaking changes in the framework’s evolution.

Luca Gallinari & Manuele Menozzi

The powerful duo of Luca Gallinari & Manuele Menozzi from Webgriffe will talk about “Adapting Price Calculation to B2B Needs”, where they will discuss how to effectively tailor price calculation systems in a B2B environment using Sylius. They will cover both basic and advanced modification techniques and demonstrate how to use automated tests to ensure that price calculations are always accurate.

Viorel Tudor

Viorel Tudor (Freshful by eMAG Group) is a senior software developer with over 8 years of experience in crafting robust and scalable applications across various industries. He will present “Beyond One-Size-Fits-All: Unlocking User Value with Profilation and Adaptable Architecture,” where he will showcase how Freshful leverages Sylius to create consumer-centric solutions. By utilizing Sylius’s capabilities, Viorel and his team build detailed profiles that enable personalized experiences. Despite using a monolithic structure, they achieve microservice-like agility through modular components.

Łukasz Chruściel & Mateusz Zalewski

The two well-known members of the Sylius Core Team – Łukasz Chruściel and Mateusz Zalewski, from Commerce Weavers, will present a session titled “Handling Background Processing in Sylius”. They’ll discuss efficiently managing background tasks, which is essential for building responsive and scalable Sylius applications. Their presentation will cover different approaches – from basic Symfony console commands, through using Symfony Messenger for more advanced processing, all the way to sophisticated methods that include architectural concerns like high availability, fault tolerance, and observability.

Guillaume Loulier

Here is the next SyliusCon speaker from SensioLabs Guillaume Loulier, an experienced PHP developer who has been building and breaking things at SensioLabs for nearly six years.

Guillaume will present “Building a Semantic Search Experience Using PHP and Meilisearch.” He will address the challenges of creating effective search experiences and discuss how traditional keyword-based searches often fall short, explaining how recent advancements in machine learning and search engines can now introduce context and improve search accuracy.

Loïc Caillieux

Loïc Caillieux, CEO of EMAGMA, is passionate about everything web and open-source. His enthusiasm and expertise have driven numerous successful projects in the digital space. Loïc is deeply involved in the Sylius ecosystem through his work and by organizing events like the popular Ecommerce Party, which has gained significant attention.

At SyliusCon, Loïc will present “Boost your Sylius Frontend with Hotwire, aka Symfony UX.” showing how to enhance the Sylius frontend experience using Hotwire actions. Through live examples, Loïc will demonstrate the core concepts of Hotwire, its benefits for backend developers, and the developer experience gains achieved with Symfony UX.

Loïc Fremont

Loïc Fremont is a dedicated member of the Sylius Core Team, creator of Monofony, an open-source enthusiast, and a talented guitarist. He is also an experienced developer working with our partner – Akawaka.

Loïc will present “Admin Panel (R)evolution for Your Symfony Projects”, where he will guide us through the evolution of Sylius. In this captivating talk, he will briefly describe the changes made in Sylius throughout the years, cover the latest advancements, and identify the essential elements that make the new Sylius Stack an invaluable tool for any Symfony project, extending far beyond eCommerce applications.

Thomas di Luccio

Meet Thomas di Luccio, who “explains things for a living” as a Senior Developer Advocate at Platform.sh and Blackfire.io.

Thomas will present “Prepping for Black Friday: improve, scale, and stress test your Sylius app.” The holiday shopping season, especially Black Friday, presents a significant growth opportunity for eCommerce applications. However, without proper preparation, your app could struggle with the surge in traffic, leading to poor user experiences or even server crashes.

Romain Ruaud

Romain Ruaud, co-founder and CTIO of Gally + ElasticSuite will share the story behind the inception and development of Gally, an open-source search engine solution for product discovery. You’ll learn how to build a REST/GraphQL layer on top of Elasticsearch using API Platform and Symfony. Romain will also cover key technical principles, such as Elasticsearch index abstraction, automatic mapping computation, and GraphQL stitching.

Kévin Dunglas  

Kévin is the CEO of Les-Tilleuls.coop and an experienced software architect. He’s behind tools like API Platform (REST and GraphQL framework) and protocols like Mercure.rocks and Vulcain.rocks. He’s also made key contributions to Symfony components like Panther, PropertyInfo, and WebLink, and to over 100 open-source projects, including PHP, Laravel, Doctrine ORM, React, and Kubernetes.

Many recognize Kevin as the figure behind FrankenPHP. His con-talk, “Boost your Sylius apps and simplify deployment with FrankenPHP.”, will be a unique chance to hear about the details behind the technology by the author himself.

Stephan Hochdörfer

Stephan is the Head of IT Business Operations at bitExpert AG, which specializes in pro-code and low-code software development. In his role, he oversees software development processes, technical operations, sales, and strategic planning.

At the conference, Stephan will present “Simplifying Sylius Containerization with DDEV”. Stephan will explain how DDEV abstracts Docker and Docker Compose, offering a standardized input layer while still allowing for customizations, making containerization more accessible to those unfamiliar with the technology. 

Ksenia Zvereva

Ksenia Zvereva is the Developer Community Lead at Mollie, where she fosters engagement between product engineering teams and the developer community, with 10 years of IT industry expertise, such as data protection, cloud infrastructure, eCommerce, and community initiatives.

During the presentation “Developer Docs: The Write Way to Streamline Projects,” Ksenia will share insights on how effective documentation can significantly impact project success. She will use a practical case study to illustrate how her team revamped developer documentation, highlighting strategies to make internal documentation more appealing and its impact on both external and internal projects.
