4Ustore’s multi-entity wholesale transformation
4Ustore’s multi-entity wholesale transformation

Relying on an outdated platform makes transformation inevitable. For 4Ustore, a growing wholesale company in food and non-food products with multiple B2B and B2C webshops, Magento 1 had become a barrier to future growth.

The challenge that sparked transformation

For 4Ustore, the warning signs were everywhere. Their Magento 1 platform had become the digital equivalent of duct tape and hope, somehow holding together eCommerce, product management, backorders, warehouse operations, and order picking in one increasingly unstable setup.

While this worked initially, several critical issues emerged that made growth nearly impossible:

Why Sylius emerged as the perfect solution

After evaluating their options, 4Ustore chose Sylius for three compelling reasons that aligned perfectly with their wholesale operation needs. Flexibility was crucial – unlike plug-and-play solutions that force businesses into predefined boxes, Sylius adapts to business needs rather than the other way around. For 4Ustore’s custom requirements and complex wholesale workflows, this flexibility was absolutely non-negotiable.

They were also learning from past mistakes – their Magento 1 experience taught them that some platforms make simple changes feel impossible, while Sylius’s developer-friendly architecture promised the opposite, a foundation that would grow with them rather than constrain them. Finally, proven expertise sealed the deal when Nedbase brought years of positive Sylius experience, combined with direct knowledge of what doesn’t work with other platforms. Their no-nonsense approach and regional proximity made collaboration seamless from day one.

Technical Overview

The technical implementation presents what’s possible when you’re not constrained by platform limitations. Each integration was carefully chosen to support 4Ustore’s complex wholesale operations:

Shipping integration

Sendcloud handles all shipment management and provides track-and-trace functionality. Order pickers can split orders into multiple shipments without touching Sylius data, creating a seamless workflow that keeps operations running smoothly even during peak seasons.

Payment intagration

Mollie integration covers payments and refunds, providing the reliability that wholesale operations demand. No more payment processing headaches or manual reconciliation nightmares.

Custom solution

Built with the Symfony framework and Sylius components, this handles order aggregation from all shops and marketplaces, with E-boekhouden integration for seamless accounting workflows.

Enhanced searchandising

ElasticSearch powers site search, filtering, and product overviews based on current taxonomy and brand data. Fast, relevant results keep customers engaged and help them find exactly what they need quickly.

Content management

Nedbase CMS plugin was used to provide content pages and other content-related blocks on pages like the homepage and product details. Additionally, AirTable serves as their PIM solution, managing product information, multi-currency pricing, and shipping costs. The AirTable API integration uses message bus architecture to balance server load intelligently, ensuring consistent performance.

Feed management

Channable handles feed management and marketplace order processing, including Amazon integration. Multiple sales channels become manageable rather than overwhelming.

Hosting

CloudVPS provides the reliable hosting infrastructure that keeps everything running smoothly, no matter how many orders are flowing through the system.

Results

The results speak for themselves. 4Ustore now operates 8 distinct webshops, all powered by Sylius:

  • kantinewinkel.nl
  • dropwinkel.eu
  • handdoekentoiletpapier.nl
  • foodworld-xl.nl
  • foodworld-xl.com
  • foodworld-xl.de
  • foodworld-xl.us
  • foodworld-xl.co.uk

Each shop delivers superior usability and user experience compared to its previous platform. More importantly, they’re processing hundreds of orders daily, a volume that would have stressed their old system beyond breaking point.

From the development perspective:

We have worked on this project with multiple developers for a long period of time. It was challenging to make all the processes of the store available online in a user-friendly way. Thanks to the good foundations of Sylius and Symfony, we were able to make the right choices and we succeeded in implementing many custom features. We have created a stable foundation that 4UStore can use for years to come. This is a result to be proud of!

From the business side:

We are very satisfied with our new e-commerce platform and the way we cooperated with Nedbase for this. We are confident in continuing our yearly growth with our new Sylius-based platform.

The bigger picture:
Future-proofing wholesale commerce

This transformation demonstrates something crucial about modern eCommerce: the days of one-size-fits-all platforms are over. Wholesale businesses like 4Ustore need solutions that adapt to complex, multi-channel operations without forcing compromises on essential functionality.

Sylius delivered a secure, future-proof platform capable of handling growth in orders and revenue while remaining flexible enough for custom feature development. The modular architecture means 4Ustore won’t face the same platform limitations that forced this migration in the first place.

The partnership between 4Ustore and Nedbase showcases what’s possible when business needs drive technical decisions rather than platform constraints. Through careful planning, strategic integration choices, and Sylius’s inherent flexibility, they’ve built something that scales with ambition rather than limiting it.
